Kazakhstan and China open borders after two years of the pandemic

Kazakhstan and China will resume regular direct flights from July 1, according to the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.


The flight operator is the Air Astana airlines, which will operate flights on the route Almaty – Chengdu with a frequency of 1 flight per week on Fridays. The supplementary flight will be added from July 7, 2022.


Moreover, the Chinese "China Southern Airlines" plans to resume regular passenger flights on the route Almaty – Urumqi with a frequency of 1 flight per week from July 1 as well.


Against the background of the news about the resumption of regular flights, the Kazakhstan ambassador to PRC, H.E. Mr. Shakhrat Nuryshev, met with the Minister of Culture and Tourism of PRC - Hu Heping in Beijing. At the meeting, Kazakhstan’s side announced the plans for a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens for 14 days.


The resumption of flights between Kazakhstan and China will accelerate the development of trade, economy, investment, tourism, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.


The flights will be operated in strict compliance with sanitary and epidemiological requirements and following the published schedule on the airline’s website.

To fly to China, citizens of Kazakhstan will need 10 days of self-isolation, and a PCR test must be taken twice within 48 and 24 hours before the departure.  In addition, passengers must submit an antigens test with a result, no exceeding 12 hours before departure.
