On February 5th, the first vice prime minister and the minister of finance of the RK Alikhan Smailov announced that despite the established tradition, the government of Kazakhstan decided to hold Astana Economic Forum under the framework of WTO Ministerial Conference this year.
"We are hosting the WTO Ministerial Conference. It is an international event in which we expect participation of 200 countries at the ministerial level. Thus we decided to hold Astana Economic Forum in the framework of this Conference", said Alikhan Smailov.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, speaking on January 24th at an extended meeting of the government, instructed to reduce the expenses of the budget for the event organization.
"It is necessary to determine the costs that can be postponed without pain. As a first measure, I propose to declare a long-term moratorium on the costs of purchasing expensive vehicles and furniture, and also for various forums, seminars and conferences. Activities should be a clearly practical and ideological benefit. All costs must be justified", he said.
We remind you that the Ministerial Conference is the topmost decision-making body of the WTO consisting of representatives of member states of the organization. Meetings of the Conference have been held every two years or more often since 1994. In Nur-Sultan it will be held on June 8-12th this year.
